New Zealand in size is almost equal to Japan and Great Briton. It is considered to be the third most beautiful country in the world made of about 600 islands  with amazing diversity of landscape made of beautiful mountains , fjords, famous ski fields and stunning natural wonders, including sparkling alpine lakes and icy glaciers.

People in New Zealand are popularly known as “Kiwis” named after the bird Kiwi found only in New Zealand and nowhere else in the world. Almost 98% of the population live in the two large islands named North Island and South Island while the capital city is Wellington in North Island and Christchurch is the main city in South Island.

New Zealand Education System

The education system in New Zealand is enormously diverse and one of the best in the world, maintaining excellent standards in literacy, mathematics and sciences and ranks consistently high in global standards.

New Zealand has eight state-funded universities, 16 Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics (ITPs) and about 550 Private Training Establishments (PTEs), which include English language schools.

New Zealand generally has two intakes i.e. in January and July, with few universities offering multiple intakes in September .and November.

New Zealand also has 18 Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics (ITPs)

They provide professional and vocational education and training ranging from introductory studies through to full degree programmes. Many ITPs also offer English language training and postgraduate study options, including up to Doctoral (PhD) level. Courses are more vocationally oriented, emphasising practical experience and application to work situations.

Scholarships

To attract more international students NZ offers a number of scholarships to its international students. However, scholarships offered to the international students are purely based on merit. Some scholarships cover tuition and living expenses.

Dependent Child’s Education

  • dependentchild can join their parent in New Zealand and is able to study at a Primary or Secondary school and even continue studies at Tertiary Level.
  • dependentchild can also be treated as a domestic student if one studies for Masters or PHD in NZ which means the child need not pay tuition fees to go to a primary or secondary school.
  • Students in year 12 or 13 can work during the last 2 years of secondary school up to 20 hours a week and full-time on declared holidays….

There are plenty of opportunities for work for international students. On a student visa, you are allowed to work up to 20 hours a week throughout the semester. During vacations you can work up to 40 hours. This will ease the financial burden on your educational and living expenses. You may even be able to get internships and other practical work. The office for international students at your university can help you find a job to sustain you during your stay in New Zealand.

Another advantage is that you can get a permit at the end of your degree program to work for 12 months in the country under a special “work permit” while you are still under your student visa.

For some students the ultimate goal for studying abroad is to get a well-paid job. In New Zealand, job opportunities exist in almost every sector. With a qualification obtained from a New Zealand University or a Technical school you could easily get you a job anywhere.

All New Zealand’s universities offer a broad range of subjects for undergraduate, Masters and Doctoral (PhD) degrees in commerce, science and the humanities. Some universities offer degrees in specialist fields – such as medicine, agriculture, engineering, etc. A number of universities have more than one campus, often located in different cities.

Medicine

New Zealand medical degrees often include clinical practise in the programme as well as problem-solving and self-directed learning. Accounting
